The Greek philosopher Aristotle divided the Greek government into Monarches, Oligarchies, Tyrants and Democracies.
MonarchA Monarchy is a is a system of government in which one person reigns, usually king or a queen like King George. The authority in a monarchy is generally inherited. This did not last because the people thought it was unfair.
Democracy
A system of government by the whole population or all the eligible members of a state, typically through elected representatives. This is still going on today because we think this is the fairest way to vote.

OligarchieAn oligarchy is a form of power structure in which power effectively rests with a small number of people. Thes few might be royalty, wealthy, and family ties. This did not last because the oligarchy kept arguing with each other and not getting anything else done.

TyrantsA tyrant is an evil ruler like Adolf Hitler. A Tyrant is a ruler who exercises absolute power oppressively or brutally. They are cruel and unjust. This did not last because the citizens revolted against the government.
